Porrentruy, Canton Jura

The historic medieval town of Porrentruy in the canton of Jura, is the perfect place to start exploring this part of Switzerland or for just relaxing in this region known as the Ajoie, for insiders this region is one of Switzerland's best kept secrets. It is the ideal setting for outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding. There is also an excellent golf course nearby. The limestone caves and the traces left by dinosaurs in this region are well worth a visit. The city of Basel is within easy reach it is great for shopping and is packed with museums, world famous art galleries . The French border is just 20min away with antique shops and markets in abundance, and ofcourse various vineyards.

Pretty Porrentruy (Pruntrut) is the last Jura town of importance before heading into France. Fine old buildings line the main street, Grand Rue, against a dramatic backdrop of the bulky chateau. Thirteenth-century Tour de Refouss stands aloof amid the various 18th-century structures.
